VESAK Personal Commitments
Sat, July 26, 2008 at 23:43 (mc) mindfully breathe 10x after waking up in the morning and then again before going to sleep at night. also sit 2x/wk (30 min)
(tm) water my partners flowers as soon as i get home & at least once a week after that
(ak) practice the 5MT in a calm, diligent manner. deepen my inner stability in my practice in particular 2 deal with strong emotions. embrace confidently my talents in language, creative song, meditation & performance, reiki, educating kids
(bt) practice mindful speech and deep listening daily
(gh) reduce the time spent on the internet and use it more wisely (for reading books, listening to dharma talks, etc)
(lp) do sitting meditation 2x/dy and read/listen to dharma talk 2x/wk
(cc) recite 5 MT 2x/mo
(br) make a weekly schedule in order to have time to practice in my life and give me structure and discipline
(rmg) being mindful as much as possible
(mc) commit to touching the earth for 21 days, commit to waking up practice (smiling and massaging the face), affirm commitment to existing meditation practice and mindfulness training recitation, volunteer at DPM family retreat, attend winter retreat at PV
(sa) practice sitting meditation fo rat least 30 min/5x week and practicing the 5 MT
(ss) sitting meditation everyday
(jh) aware of 5 MT - not so much poison for me at uni - and move toward practicing the 5 MT and when breaking them doing so mindfully
(ke) sit daily for at least 10 min, resume zazen practice (2x40 min 3x/wk for now .... ideally, daily)
(lw) keep smiling! 10 deep breaths each morning, 15 min sitting 3x/wk, another retreat by 2009
(hl) being mindful when i invite and ring the bell
(sb) be more mindful while i'm communicating with others
(ht) open my home to sangha for 5/14MT recitations and discussions once a month
(yy) eat less meat, going back to myself every 30 min (breathing in & breathing out), smile every time i wake up, mindful at every little thing i do
VESAK Community Commitments

(yy) deep listening, watering the good seed always, graphic design for social & environmental need
(ht) keep spending time with friends mapping the suffering of our times and come up with concrete actions we can do together to ease suffering, like Thây suggested we do (the four noble truths). I hope that we can find a way to offer practice and community to changemakers of various kinds.
(ke) spend time with my parents at least once a week, do something fun with friends/community daily, explore a new community activity once a month, launch 14 MT study group, follow up on commitment invitation project, start 20 min bi-weekly self care somewhere that i work
(mc) find a sangha in my local area and join in all/most of the activities and initiate events to engage others into the practice
(tm) find a local sangha (within 1 month) & get to know my immediate neighbors better (over the next 3 months) by inviting them to dinner
(ak) find a stable sangha to help me stabilize my explosive energy so that i focus it in my deepest dream to protect love and heal children across the world
(bt) be more active in my local community through events in rotary international
(gh) particularly for the student community in my university, I intend to start a sangha (a group of young people for a health and compassionate society)
(lp) do some volunteer work weekly
(cc) volunteer at a local charity 1 dy/mo
(br) continue to host and support my sangha with enthusiasm, love, and understanding
(mc) invite sangha to Minto Brown Park in July for a day of sangha building that I will facilitate based on OB model with PV practices
(sa) join a volunteer activity on a regular basis
(ss) be very aware of the 4th MT
(hl) be more engaged in buddhist development and promote the spirit of engaged buddhism
(lw) engage family about retreat experience with interest so they are not defensive/alienated, do a beginning anew with ex
VESAK Global Commitments

(hl) breathing in, i'm peace, breathing out, I'm happy
(sb) continue to help a peace organisation for young people LKPY Loving Kindness Peaceful Youth, grow internationally using the principles of mindfulness to help people slow down and become more peaceful
(ht) continue to make myself available to groups involved in global social change work as a facilitator and communicator, and I will increase my efforts to embody the practice in this work
(yy) involved more in the social project by my design works
(jh) not travel quite so much as planes hurt the planet lots
(ss) ride my bike instead of car 50% of time
(sa) continuosly lookat my soncumption and find new ways to reduce it so i take only what i need from the earth
(mc) recommit to buying local, organic, fair-trade, meditate on how i can contribute to the larger world
(rmg) assimilate & incorporate all the experiences & teachings I've received (while moving in and around the world)
(br) sign up 4 no car day, recycle everything, be more aware of what I'm consuming and where it comes from
(cc) vegetarian food for 6 months
(lp) recite 5 MT every 2 weeks
(gh) be part of a group of young people for a healthy & compassionate society
(bt) be a mindful consumer, recycle everything allowed
(ak) create a mindful education model for all school/academic levels rooted in transforming the classroom environment
(tm) line dry laundry (when possible) instead of using a dryer
(mc) sign up at stopjunkmail.org to take my name off the direct mail list and help reduce junk mail!
(ke) work on MOXY2B site once a week and support forums/commitments/18 mo conference, fundraise for scholarship for young adult social activists to join Thay & PV sangha for retreats (goal of 1 person to India for 2008 until I learned the price of India) so (revised goal of 1 young adult per continent to join Thay and PV 2009 tours - Sponsor 1 YA to a retreat in Europe, Sponsor 1 YA to a retreat in US, if Thay goes back to Asia, Sponsor 1 YA to a retreat in Asia, etc...)
